Don’t Wait For Your Boss: Make Way For Your Own Promotion

If you want to get a promotion at work, don’t rely on hard work alone to get you there. Expecting to get noticed by your boss or manager likely won’t due. If you want to really get ahead in your career, it’s up to you to ensure that you stand out. Here are some ways beyond hard work to get noticed at work:

  • Keep track of your accomplishments. You can do this via a Word Doc or Excel sheet.
  • Keep track of any self development trainings you participate in. This may include courses or workshops.

Take this information and use it for your own six month review. You can try to schedule an informal sit down with your manager or you can keep her informed every other month on your accomplishments via email. Also, let him or her know that you’re working on a promotion and back up your requests with tangible results.
