Moving can be expensive because there’s the cost associated with purchasing new items, plus the cost of transportation. Depending on how far you have to travel and how much stuff you have, you may find that the cost of getting from your old place to your new place is more than you bargained for.

Before you dish out thousands of dollars on movers, you should take a stab at it on your own. This means getting strategic and breaking your move down into parts.

Consider having a garage sell or sell your large items online via Craigslist or eBay. You may even want to give it away to charity.
Consider checking as many items via airplane as possible (if you only have clothes)
Consider shipping your items via FedEx.
